“Philadelphia Union” …sounds like a great name doesn’t it? It hints at Philly’s rich history of helping forge the United States, of how it was the corner stone of a young nation, and it’s history of sending troubled inner-city youth to live with their auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.
But if you look a little deeper the name loses it shine. It was recently pointed out by internet pranksters from Columbus that the newly named club’s initials are “P-U”. Get it? Very high brow humor from our friends in the Buck Eye state.
But they could have done worse in naming the team. They could have named their team after an old foreign President or a meat company like some of those on the list of worst soccer team names I’ve compiled….

It’s an ancient Jewish Proverb that tells the truth. Its one that’s probably been told a million times by people of the Jewish faith, by even say, Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun.
But how would his teammates react to his preaching about lying? Do soccer players even lie? Surely soccer players have never been ones to be less than honest…
Or have they?

It’s a pretty interesting quote. It illustrates just how serious a few soccer fans take the sport, just how important the world of soccer is too some.
I don't take it that seriously though. I just like it because it gives me something cool to look at. Like what a stadium looks like from outer space...

“Hey I remember that guy!” Yes, I’m back. A little bit older but none the wiser.
It’s been just under a year since I was in a violently angry argument with John Hadden, got fired, stormed out of the GoTFC head offices and stole some sensitive material because I wasn’t escorted out by security.
But that was a long time ago and much has happened since then. I think the best way to get back on the horse is to discuss some of the bigger and more interesting news stories going on in the world of soccer today.
So here I go, here’s why I condone violent behaviour and why I’m a young man confused about his feelings...

How many of you were bribed by your parents into performing better in school? If you could came home with your report card that had nothing lower than a B you received a treat. Maybe it was a bike, or a trip to Canada’s Wonderland or, Leafs tickets. I got to rent the video game “Paper Boy” at the end of the week if had no home work left to do each night.
So what would be the goal to entice a professional soccer team into playing better? The Playoffs of course.
But, just how well has Toronto FC played this year? Have they accomplished all the goals GoTFC set out for them in the first 1/3rd of the season that would see them on the road to the post season? Let’s have a closer look at the numbers and see if TFC is really a play off contender…
