by Matthew Scianitti
Editor, Soccer 360 Magazine
After nearly a year on hiatus, locking myself in my Soccer 360 office meticulously planning how the beautiful game would once and for all enlighten the North American masses (or just continuously watching episodes of Angry Video Game Nerd, indulging in profanity and waxing nostalgic) I am back to remonstrate.
(Yes indeed, with me back blogging you better get those dictionaries and thesauruses ready because I am definitely going to dip into my inexhaustible reservoir of polysyllabics)
After spending yet another year in the BMO Field press box I am going to direct my renewed barbs at the Toronto media and give another assessment of their coverage of the Reds. It may seem cliché to do so yet again, but this season provided an intriguing case study into the Toronto media’s interest in soccer.

Columns: A Sense of Belief

By Matthew Scianitti for GoTFC
As Amado Guevara and Laurent Robert huddled together to decide who would take the free kick just outside the Kansas City penalty area, I sat in the Press Box watching both of them intently and silently said to myself, “Whoever takes it, it’s going in.”
Realizing the desirousness of what I was ruminating, and hearing a giggle or two from my contemporaries sitting next to me, I casually placed my hand over my mouth and looked on as Guevara stepped over the ball and coolly bent it beyond the reach of Kevin Hartman.
After smacking my hands joyfully on the desk in front of me, the first words out of my mouth were, “Holy Shit!”
It is hard to imagine that 20,045 delirious reds fan were not thinking the same thing.

TFC Media Report Card
By Matthew Scianitti
With Toronto FC’s preseason beginning next week, perhaps it is time to reflect and analyze the one aspect of soccer in this city that is a hub for perpetual arguments; the one aspect of soccer in Canada that no fan is ever truly happy with – the media’s coverage of the beautiful game.
For decades, the growing masses of Canadian soccer fans have felt marginalized by a media culture obsessed with the country's beloved frozen pastime. Even in the NHL lockout of 2004, hockey coverage still surpassed any other sport by a near 2:1 ratio.

Columns: On the Twelfth Day of Christmas

for GoTorontoFC.com
So here we are, the twelfth day and you’ve been right spoiled. A designated player, a playoff game (or two), a goal-hungry striker, and a few more Canadian international matches to boot; but I have one question?
What did you get us for Christmas? We have pampered you with free beer, a grassy pitch and more night games and yet we are still waiting for any small gift to show us that you appreciate our presents.
Well, I guess it really is better to give than receive this time of year, so take one last look in our big red sack because we saved the best for last - the one present every TFC fan wants above all else. The one thing that sets the heart racing, invokes joyous serenades, ignites unending celebration, and brings people together better than tidings of good cheer. The one your mom hid in her closet instead of putting it under the Christmas tree because it was just too damn big.
On the 12th day of Christmas, Christmas Eve, GoTFC gave to me...

Today's gift: More Canada | by Matthew Scianitti
for GoTorontoFC.com
As that special day nears, it is always nice to think about being at home, and being with the ones you love. It is very sentimental, I know, and I can even hear some of you gagging, but stay with me. While most of the presents we have given you have been TFC-related, today we thought we should give you a present Canadian soccer fans in this city, and country, did not have for quite some time.
So bring Bob and Doug, and all your friends down to BMO Field because we have those 11 pipers playing O Canada to usher our boys in Red into an era when Canadian Soccer thrives in the country’s largest city.
On the 11th day of Christmas, GoTFC gave to me…
